Parent night

It’s parent night for our middle schoolers. I’m a bit apprehensive as always, mostly that no one will show up! It’s the farthest relocatable building and the last period of the night, and lots of people generally decide to bail by now, because they have young children and because it’s already 8:30. I have my new standards-based grading policy and Susie’s mouse and cat story, and we’ll see whether we get actors, parents, and happy telling. I’ll edit this in fifteen minutes, once the night is over.

…it was more like 45 minutes by the time they all left…the parents were very happy and the kids were over the top excited to show off. It’s so much fun teaching middle schoolers! They are still willing to share their love of something. You have to tease that out of the HS kids. Onward…candy and animals…that’s the theme for the rest of the year.

    with love,

  2. Parent Night is in a week here…and teachers have asked me whether I have ideas for those classes whose kids have already done Susie’s Cat and Mouse story. Please tell!

I think it would be fun to videotape a class doing a story with different actors in each version, sharing classroom response to circling and questions.
