Discipline issues

Today I feel like it’s still a full moon, but maybe I’m just the one noticing things. I took advice from someone (who didn’t intend it to be advice, and was just musing) and showed my talk-y first-year class the video from the advanced class, asked them what they noticed about it. “They speak Russian way better than we do.” Yeah. What else? A quiet voice: “They are listening and participating in the lesson.” Yes. That’s exactly what I wanted you to notice. Back to basics, kids!

In a later class, there was a lot of talk going on, and after a couple of comprehension checks, I realized I was getting out of bounds. Once I got back within the safe fenced area, there was a lot more quiet attention. Maybe the moon has less pull than I had thought.
